About Town Real Estate was established in 1995 by licensed Real Estate Agent and Auctioneer, Marilyn Griffin to target a select clientele with a range of specialized and personal real estate services. To this day Marilyn Griffin inspires her staff with her personal mantra that ‘quality service' plus ‘quality marketing' will yield ‘quality homes' which in turn will attract quality tenants and yield prosperous owners.

The Office
The Townsville office is located in a busy cafe prescient one street back from The Strand - a beautiful 2km long city beach esplanade which is only half a kilometer north of the heart of Townsville's CBD.
The agency regularly lists hillside residences with stunning sea views and breezes, prestige apartments off the plan, gracious old Queenslander timber homes, and generous family residences in all areas of the city. The office also specializes in investor portfolio management and property management.
Office staff and sales brokers are fluent in Indonesian and Japanese and several have held management positions in both business and tourism within these respective countries.

Townsville, North Queensland, Australia, is currently the fastest growing regional centre in Australia with unprecedented growth in manufacturing, a billion dollars expansion by Queensland Nickel, the establishment of Korean based Sun Metals zinc refinery, Townsville's ever-expanding Military base, and nomination by US Defense Forces as a preferred R & R city. Plans are underway for a cruise ship terminal and will dramatically increase tourism when it is completed. Townsville is also the Government and Corporate headquarters for North Queensland.
Townsville is blessed with its own holiday island just 20 minutes away by regular fast cat service. Magnetic Island is largely a National Park crisscrossed by walking trails to numerous idyllic bays and sandy beaches and has long been the first choice of migrants and interstate investors. In recent years it has been discovered by developers is now being transformed and marketed around the world offering luxury condominiums, units and waterside communities with their own marinas. In 2001, a license was granted to Marlene Keane at Arcadia Bay to operate About Town Real Estate Magnetic Island.
The Townsville and Magnetic Island region has been rightly been identified as the ‘hot spot' in Australia for safe, solid investment with many investors from around the continent and increasingly overseas, investing in real estate in this burgeoning region with a population growth rate of 5% per annum.
Industry Training and Awards
From the beginning of her career in 1983, Marilyn Griffin realized that a key to providing the high quality services in real estate was keen to enhance her knowledge of all areas of the industry. Marilyn achieved her College Certificate in Advanced Real Estate and was awarded the Meritorious Achievement Award from the Bureau of Employment, Vocational and Further Education and Training.
Further courses have included in Train the Trainer and Marilyn has since facilitated subjects at the Technical and Further Education College. Always at the forefront of taking up ever-evolving initiatives in the real estate industry, About Town Real Estate was the first real estate office in Townsville and Magnetic Island to go online on the Internet in 1997.

Marilyn Griffin recognizes that wise investment for a prosperous future includes nurturing youth locally and internationally with leadership training and provision to health services. She is ardent in her involvement with Rotary Youth Exchange programs and recently guided the Townsville Daybreak Rotary Club in partnership with the Rotary Club of Vihiga, through the hoops to win a Matching Grant from Rotary International for the purpose of establishing a mobile wound clinic to service 10 schools in a remote part of Kenya.
Last but not least, Marilyn cherishes a ‘dual occupation' as grandmother of two beautiful little girls.
